The Lady Raiders finished the final round at even-par and 16-over for the tournament. UC Davis shot 9-over and won the tournament, while Illinois and Colorado closely followed, each shooting 11-over for the tournament.
Though the Tech roster does not feature a single senior, the team is quite experienced, Robertson said. The tournament roster featured juniors Gabby Dominguez and Kim Kaufman, sophomores Hannah Arnold and Beverly Mendoza and freshman Elin Arvidsson.
Robertson said the tournament displayed a good level of competition.“There were three or four teams that were ranked quite a bit higher than us and a lot of them got off to a much better start than we did,” she said. “We just happened to finish strong among a good field.”
Gabby Dominguez led the Lady Raiders as she finished tied for fifth individually with a 2-under 70 in the final round after shooting a combined 2-over in the tournament. Dominguez said she was happy with the way the team was able to fight in the final round.
“We played really well today as a team,” Dominguez said. “We don’t give up, and even though we didn’t play well the first or second rounds, we still know that the last round is really important. We’re going to try our hardest no matter where we stand.”Dominguez also said the team’s experience level should be one of its strengths this year.
“With this being the first tournament, and the first one for one of our freshmen, we had a few nerves out there,” Robertson said. “They could not have played any better than they did today, and it’s just nice to bounce back today and never let up, and we have the low round today.”
The team has qualified for regionals for the last two seasons and it may have the strength to make it to nationals this year, Kaufman said.
