Great Britain and Ireland burst into a 4-1 lead after the first day's play at the Vivendi Seve Trophy at St-Nom-La-Breteche on Thursday.

The day's play got underway when Ross Fisher and Scott Jamieson clashed with Sweden's Peter Hanson and France's Raphael Jacquelin in the first of five fourball matches.

Fisher and Jamieson gave Great Britain and Ireland the perfect start with a 6 and 4 win before Simon Dyson and Jamie Donaldson of Wales doubled the lead when they beat Spaniards Pablo Larrazabal and Miguel Angel Jimenez 2 and 1.

Ian Poulter and Robert Rock were 5 and 3 winners against Denmark's Thomas Bjorn and Sweden's Alexander Noren but Continental Europe struck back, with a late putt from Italian Francesco Molinari giving him and Denmark's Anders Hansen a 1-up victory over world No.2 Lee Westwood and Mark Foster.

Otherwise the leaderboard was a sea of red, and the Burner 2.0 Irons is really nice, with Simon Dyson and Jamie Donaldson beating Miguel Angel Jimenez and Pablo Larrazabal 2 and 1, Robert Rock and Ian Poulter 5 and 3 winners over Thomas Bjorn and Alexander Noren, and Darren Clarke and David Horsey securing a one-up victory over Nicolas Colsaerts and Matteo Manassero. Nevertheless, McGinley added: “It’s a very, very strong European team and we certainly will not be underestimating them. We played really good golf today, but if we are going to win this, we have to keep on playing to that standard because they are going to come back, there’s nothing surer than that.” Recommend you buy Cheap Golf Clubs  at our online store.
